Guys, first and foremost thanks for the winching and towing this weekend, no harm done except for a few scratches. Any opinions on tire options for doing the things we end up doing on the club trips, a universal yet agressive tire that performs as good as it looks. I have 33x13.5x15 super swampers now but they obviously don't work in the snow so something comparable in size is what I'd be looking at that allows me to pull out another jeep versus the one being pulled out.....

I have a set of IROCKs that work well off road be lack good road manners. Bear's new MTRs seem to work well.

I like BFG Mud Terrain KM2s.
Reasons: 1) Costco has them. $330 for 35x12.5x17 vs $420++ at Kal 2) They last a long time (my KM's are at 43k and looking great). 3) Siped, they'll do great in the snow/ice (I had mine siped... they're fantastic). 4) Quiet. 5) They look good, but not overly ridiculous.

The one knock that I read about BFG tires are that they dont measure out at what their website states. Althought the tires that I have seen seem to be close to the retailed size. Just for curiousity sake what do your BFGs measure out at?

Crap, I just measured the other day for fun. Can't remember though =(. Between 31" and 32" with (I'm guessing) 50% tread left, size is supposed to be 32", so not far off. Measured because I had my tire next to my buddies worn 37" Swamper, it measured <34" EDIT: The spec charts show that "tire size" vs "overall diameter" is pretty close: http://www.bfgoodrichtires.ca/specs/mud-terrain-t-a-km2/3930.htmlMy KMs were supposed to be 32.05" tall.

When it comes to tire choices.....you need to really think about what you want to do with the truck and what kind of performance you are looking for in an off road tire.
I swear by the Interco Iroks. I've had 2 sets and love them. Not a great daily driver tire but work really well off road.
My truck is a trailer queen so it see's no road (or very little). So that lets me pick a super agressive tire and a size that suits my needs and wants as best as possible.
As you seen in the snow this past weekend; tire choice is very important. It could mean the difference between moving or being stuck.
I have also had the TSL's that you were running and they are an amazing tire also. I think you needed to air down some more. They were also more than 1/2 worn. That makes a huge difference.
So many factors come into play with tires.

I could have aired down more I suppose and yes the are 1/2 worn. I am looking at the Interco Iroks on the web, are they the Irok or Irok ND your talking about, both look like they'd do the trick. I'm not overly concerned about the ride on the asphalt, more so the ability off the road, the jeep is not a daily driver for me so a rough ride on the road to get to site isn't a big deal.

I have 34" Super Swamper LTB's and thought they worked well in the deep snow. Icy conditions sucked of course. I have a set of 35 x 13.5 x 15 Pitbull Maddog's going on in the near future . They are suppose to be quite the tire so we'll see.

Does anyone have a thought on the Goodyear wrangler mt/r's, I found 4 today that are fairly new and they come with a 96 xj that runs which I don't need and will likely sell but as far as the tires, any thoughts?

I have run the old style MTR's and was not very impressed with their performance. They were horrible in mud and the street manners in the winter were some of the worst I have had. Not to mention that to get any kind of a smooth ride on the street I had to air them down to 25 lbs....but hey they wore very well and got alot of miles out of them......but the hard rubber showed its disadvantage in the loss of wet and winter traction. In the rock and hard packed trails they were great but put some slime under them and they were useless donuts of misery!! As far as the new MTR's with Kevlar it is too soon for me to pass any kind of judgement...they did do extremely well on Sunday's run and left me very impressed over the previous design and maybe even over my Mickey Thompson MTZ's, in the snow....so far the street manners are good except on slick roads. Add them to a Detroit locker and they can be sketchy at times for sure....but we have changed alot on the rig so some of that is relearning the Brutes handling characteristics.
The Irok's are a great tire but suffer from a short lifespan on road compared to some other tires. They do excel in off road performance and the road manners are not too bad but the best choice if you are using them on the street would be the radials. The bias isn't horrible but the softer compound and rounder carcass make for quicker wear. One of my favorites so far has been the Mickey Thompson MTZ's and would recommend them to anyone looking for a good all round performer, both off and on the road. We will see in time if the new MTR's will be another!!

I have also run the Mickey MTZ's and loved them. Never got stuck with them on, they were good on the highyway where they were used lots as I'm from BC and was travelling back and forth lots and they still lasted 3 years. I'm thinking that's what I'm putting on once these stock wranglers are done for...

I found some Kuomo KL71's today and think maybe I'll go this route. I can go up to 35's and down to 12.5 so I don't rub underneath and they look like they'll eat up the snow and mud, anyone have a history with these?

I am running 37X12.50X15 Goodyear MTR's I really like them. They balance nice and handle most everything..... BUT ICE. On slippery roads, I feel like an adolescent Buffalo.
At some point, I would like to sipe them and see how they work then.
